Friends of LandCrazed (the blogger) went and did it. They built themselves a dream house on one of the most amazing canyon rims this side of The Grand Canyon: Crooked River Canyon, home of Smith Rock

By choosing to look in Redmond, Oregon instead of over-the-top Bend — where real estate is out of sight — our friends opted for a more rural location and a (tiny bit) less pricey land cost. And look what they got! A 24-hour, 365-day view of one of the most amazing rock formations jutting out of this continent.

It takes a lot of guts to stick-build a modern house in a part of the country where modernism abuts geologic formations dating 33 million years, but our friends stuck to their guns — and their against-the-grain-of-Redmond vision.

When does Dwell magazine go do the photo shoot???
